Special Features of the Work and Methods Used

  • Construction of three silos with a dimension of 33 m diameter and 65 m high and one silo with a dimension of 20 metres in diameter and 50 m high
  • Silos continuously constructed using a sliding formwork (slip form). Concrete work, installation of reinforcing steel and installing post-tensioning ducts were made continuously and simultaneously around the clock (seven days, 24 hours)
  • The reinforcing steel workers had to work more than 200 feet high and they had to deal with bad weather (strong winds and cold temperature) and a small working space
  • Innovative turnkey project

  • Armatura 2004, awarded by Institut d’Acier d’armature du Québec (IAAQ) in the category « Industrial » for the construction of three silos at the Alouette Aluminium Plant Phase II
